British Computer Society IT industry awards
In awarding the BT Flagship Award for Innovation 2008 the judges were looking for an outstanding project that brought real benefits to society, raising the profile of the IT industry.
Steve Markwell, chief executive at National Computer Centre and chair of the judges said of Garlik: “In judging this entry we were especially impressed with how leading-edge web-based technology has been applied to address an increasingly pressing problem caused by the phenomenal growth and success of the world wide web.
“This is a truly innovative approach to a very real problem that we all face. With so many of us now banking online, using government online services and social networking sites, the task of managing personal information in the ether can be a difficult one.”
The Netexplorateur Forum is an opportunity for starts-up and investors to meet the global players of the Internet Generation, whose new uses of digital media are having a lasting impact on society, business and private governance.
The Technology Pioneers programme was set up by the World Economic Forum as a way of identifying and integrating companies involved in the design and development of new technologies. The innovations delivered by these companies reflect society's attempts to adapt and use technology to change and improve the way business and society operate.
Companies selected as Technology Pioneers must demonstrate visionary leadership, show signs of being a long-standing market leader and its technology must be proven. Garlik was selected as a 2008 Technology Pioneer for developing and applying the most innovative and transformational technology
